#30 Getting to know Louisiana Mei Gelpi
knitting in summertime, @regular_meals, and a batard bread lamp
Welcome to Objectively #30! The big 3-0. I have an announcement at the end so keep reading.
We’re back with another “Getting to know…”, which can also be read as short for “Getting to know my ‘following list’”, inquiring into the lives of people I find interesting and inspiring.
In this edition, we have Louisiana Mei Gelpi, Digital Producer at Atmos and photographer for the likes of Teen Vogue. Based in New York City, you can find her posting photos with jocular license plates she spots on the go, next to ‘stories’ of mirror selfies in understated ensemble.
She tells us her go-to summer fit, what makes her feel at home, and what we can expect next from @regular_meals, where she shares her gastronomical adventures.
Louisiana Mei Gelpi is a digital producer at Atmos and a freelance photographer. In her free time she loves to knit and watch reality television.
If there’s one recent memorable experience you can share, what is it?
Eating leftover wedding cake with my boyfriend, his parents and grandparents at his parents' house in Illinois. It was after his brother's wedding weekend and although our flight got cancelled twice (not fun at all, or something I'd want to relive), it was nice to be welcomed back into the home again after a long day of driving back and forth, and gathering round the kitchen island eating leftover cake. Maybe it's something that feels kinda you had to be there but it was very special.
What’s your recent go-to outfit like?
I've been loving wearing Adidas shorts, a tank top and my black flats. It's been really hot here and I personally feel like summer is the most uninspiring season to dress for – I really can't be bothered to think!
Can you tell us about one thing you made recently?
The last thing I finished making was a green cashmere neck scarf for my mom. We chose and bought the yarn on our most recent trip to Copenhagen, which was really nice. That's the fourth neck scarf I've made since last year so it didn't feel too exciting, but I'm excited to be working on my current sweater although it's pretty much summer now.
I am savouring @regular_meals vicariously, and you mentioned that good tableware goes a long way - what are your favourites? Also, anything new in the pipeline?
I love East Fork Pottery for plates and bowls, Sabre for cutlery. I also love getting tableware from ceramicists. I've been thinking about making a zine of my most eaten meals or favourite recipes, so maybe that's something that will come to fruition.
What makes you feel at home?
I love a mug. The feeling of drinking coffee out of someone's mug they gave their mom when they were five feels really special and comforting to me. It's so interesting to see what kind of mugs people have, I feel like it tells you a lot about them.
What’s one thing the internet doesn’t yet know about you?
Maybe how I'm feeling? I like to share bits of what I'm up to but I keep most of my feelings to myself and friends. I'm not one to post long captions of reflections online.
A wild card, in Objectively fashion: Imagine you could be any object, what would you want to be?
This batard bread lamp, for no particular reason. It's made of real bread!!
Before you go, who’s another creator that you enjoy? If given the chance, what’s one question you’ll ask them?
I love what my friend Trishna Goklani has been sharing. One question I'd ask is... What does the mood board for your house look like?
You can find Louisiana @anameizing and follow her gastronomical adventures on @regular_meals.
Now for the announcement.
Last week, a reader Erika pledged a sum to Objectively (thank you!!!), which has given me the push to enable paid subscriptions. IT’S WILD. A milestone that feels serendipitous announcing on #30, which I thought would be an ambitious goal when I first launched.
Now you can upgrade your sub for $5 a month (or $50 a year) to support the time and work that go into researching for these features, so that I can keep doing this and bring you untold stories of creatives worth sharing, worth knowing!
This (the price of one coffee a month!) also gives you full access to the archive, which you would no longer have on a free plan.
I’ll appreciate every support, thanks for being here, you all keep this going!
